Do you know the term “monster parents” and what it means?
Do they exist overseas as well?
What are monster parents?
Monster parents are monster-like parents who make outrageous complaints and demand unreasonable behavior and demands of teachers.
They appear in schools all over Japan, causing trouble for teachers.
Let me share my own experience of monster parents.
Entry 1: Japanese high schools are three years long, and many schools offer a school trip in the second year.
Students then create a yearbook compiling photos of memories and commemorative events from the past three years, which is then handed out to them at the graduation ceremony.
After seeing the yearbook, a parent complained to a teacher.
“There are very few photos of my child. I want them to take another school trip and take lots of photos.”
The teacher in charge of the yearbook was at a loss for words at the unreasonable request.
They only think about their own children and look down on teachers as just other staff members.
Nearly 10 years ago, an insurance company employee who frequented schools introduced a certain insurance policy to teachers.
The policy was to protect teachers in the event of a lawsuit from a parent.
I was very disappointed that such insurance was ever created.
