The Need for Overseas Travel for Japanese People
My first trip abroad was when I was an 18-year-old university student.
The experiences I had on that trip were so impactful that they changed my outlook on life.
As an island nation, Japan has a unique culture, and until recently, it had very few immigrants compared to other countries.
I decided as a student that I wanted to become an English teacher, so I wanted to study English in a broad sense, not just grammar but also culture, the country’s origins, and society.
International perspective and sensibility are not easily acquired through books or television.
It is very important to actually visit other countries and experience them for yourself.
Japanese people have a high level of education and are quite knowledgeable, but very few actually see things with their own eyes and take action.
Especially when it comes to overseas travel, I think there are far fewer people who plan and act independently compared to people overseas.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, I resumed traveling abroad and visit several Southeast Asian countries every year, but I rarely encounter Japanese tourists.
There are probably several reasons why people are unable to travel, but even before the COVID-19 pandemic, I saw group tours, but I remember that there were very few people traveling individually.
I feel that Japanese people who are able to travel individually overseas should do so.
This is because traveling individually overseas allows you to improve yourself in all sorts of situations.
If you get into trouble, it will hone your problem-solving skills so that you can resolve it.
