When I went to Paris and looked at the menu at a famous cafe on the Champs-Élysées, the staff showed me the menu in Japanese.
Sceptical, I asked to see the English menu.
As I expected, the price for the Japanese menu was about three times higher than the English menu.
Most Japanese tourists don’t question it at all and just pay whatever they’re told.
It’s also common in every country for real estate agents and shops that speak Japanese to charge incredibly higher prices than shops that speak the local language or English.
