Traditional Events and Seasonal Characteristics in June
Unfortunately, June is a month without any particular events.
This time of year is the rainy season before summer, and it rains frequently.
In Southeast Asia, even if a downpour occurs, the rain quickly subsides, but in Japan, rain continues throughout the day.
The rainy season seems to be shorter than in the past, but due to the humid weather, traveling during this time is not recommended.
However, the hydrangeas that bloom during this time are truly beautiful.
A particularly famous spot to see hydrangeas is the Hydrangea Temple in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, next to Tokyo.
The temple’s official name is Meigetsuin Temple.
The thousands of hydrangeas that fill the temple grounds are known as Meigetsuin Blue and attract many tourists.
This temple is also a designated Japan Heritage Site.
Kamakura is a very famous area in Japanese history, and was a prosperous place during the Kamakura period.
Kamakura is a very popular area with both mountains and the sea, where you can enjoy both hiking and swimming in the sea.
It’s also famous for being the setting for the film “The First Slam Dunk,” which was released in 2022.
This area is especially recommended for anime fans.
