Considering incidents caused by peer pressure
It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that I became acutely aware of the frightening effects of peer pressure in Japan.
I already think the idea of everyone being the same is strange, but at the time, I was more afraid of the Japanese people than the coronavirus itself.
Ever since the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Yokohama, which is said to be the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, I’ve been thoroughly researching COVID-19, searching for reports from around the world.
As a result, I didn’t feel the need for masks, so my family and I didn’t wear them.
I also decided not to get vaccinated.
Vaccinations are optional, not compulsory, in Japan.
Despite this, 90% of Japanese people are vaccinated, the highest in the world, and almost 100% wear masks.
In 2020, a passenger on a Japanese airline was denied boarding because he refused to wear a mask.
He was subsequently arrested by the police.
I remember this incident being widely reported in the media.
I recently learned that the person was found guilty.
Were you aware of this incident?
And what do you think about this incident and the verdict? I believe this incident was caused by the peer pressure that is unique to Japanese people.
This incident made me keenly aware of the fearsome nature of Japanese society.
