I have been concerned about the immigration problem, which has become a major issue worldwide, for many years.
In Japan, a tremendous number of foreigners are visiting and immigrating to Japan.
Recently, JICA announced the Africa Hometown Initiative.
Neither the government nor JICA has properly explained this to the Japanese people. I first learned about this plan on a foreign website.
It has spread explosively on X and social media, and the younger generation has been able to learn about this issue. However, the older generation who believe in television news are completely unable to face the facts.
Recently, the number of Muslims has increased considerably. I lived in Malaysia, so I understand the lives and culture of Muslims to some extent, but I think most Japanese people don’t know anything about it, so they are often surprised.
As you know, Malaysia has a multinational culture, so I was a little shocked when I first went there.Looking back now, I think it was a good experience for me, a Japanese person of a single ethnicity.
However, I personally think that coexistence with other ethnic groups is very difficult in Japan, an island nation, for Japanese people of a single ethnicity.
This is because Japanese common sense is the world’s uncommon sense.
There are many Japanese common sense things that even I, as a Japanese person, cannot understand.
The more I travel abroad, the more I see the strangeness of Japan.Because the mass media doesn’t report it on TV or in newspapers at all, many Japanese people are completely unaware of the immigration problem in Europe.
Also, many Japanese people are completely unaware of the plans for a considerable number of foreigners to immigrate to Japan.
Japan is truly a pathetically information-closed country.
I think people like me, who have abandoned Japanese TV and newspapers and research overseas information on their own, are truly rare in Japan.Japanese media translates overseas information into completely different content. It really shows how much they look down on Japanese people who aren’t good at English.
